Use Of Mark Reflects BAP Program Participation
he Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) retail-level certification mark is a trademark of the Global Aquaculture Alliance that is licensed to the Aquaculture Certification Council for use only by BAP-certified facilities.
Certified facilities may use this certification mark on retail packaging only if it contains aquaculture product, (currently only shrimp, tilapia or channel catfish raised in ponds), farmed and/or processed in accordance with Best Aquaculture Practices standards, as affirmed by site inspections and auditing procedures implemented by the Aquaculture Certification Council. Certified facilities may include the mark in advertising and retail packaging only as provided in the Facility Certification Agreement and referenced publications.
The BAP mark reflects process certification only. It does not certify the condition, quality, or food safety status of aquaculture products.
Conditions for Use
The retail-level Best Aquaculture Practices certification mark may only be used by processing plants that have successfully been certified through the Aquaculture Certification Council and are in current good standing with the Best Aquaculture Practices program.
Based on facilities' level of participation in the BAP program, one of two versions of the mark is supplied to program participants: one that indicates the product came from a BAP-certified processor that sourced the shrimp, tilapia or channel catfish raised in ponds from BAP-certified farms or one that indicates the shrimp, tilapia or channel catfish raised in ponds were processed at a certified facility but not farmed at certified facilities. Since certified processors may also process product from noncertified farms, they receive both versions of the mark.
The Aquaculture Certification Council reserves the right to withhold or withdraw permission to use the BAP mark if the conditions for continued use are not met. Unauthorized use of the Best Aquaculture Practices certification mark will be vigorously prosecuted under applicable laws and regulations.
